Want Healthy Glowing Skin?
Updated: Jun 11
Want healthy glowing skin? Remember the old adage “You are what you eat”? This applies not only to our overall health but also to how our skin looks and feels.
As the largest organ in the body, beautiful glowing skin starts with nourishment from within. Every 2-3 weeks you have brand new skin cells replacing tired old skin cells. Providing your body with a steady supply of key nutrients is the simplest way to ensure our bodies have the necessary building blocks to create healthy new skin.
If you feel you have lost your ‘glow’ or simply wish to support the growth of healthy young skin cells, the good news is there are plenty of ways to make your skin look its best. Enjoying a wide variety of foods from all food groups is the simplest way to ensure you obtain the essential vitamins and minerals for health skin such as vitamin A, vitamin C, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine, vitamin E, zinc and selenium.
Glowing skin starts by feeding your skin from the inside:
Eat a colourful variety of fruit and vegetables every day
Fruit and vegetables provide vital nutrients for skin health and anti-ageing. A healthy balanced diet provides a rich supply of antioxidants that help protect and repair our skin from pollutants that could cause damage. Aim for at least 5 serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit every day.
Consume more Carotenoids
Carotenoids, along with active Vitamin A help block the formation of oxidative stress, the primary cause of aging and degeneration. The best food sources of carotenoids are fruits and vegetables that are bright yellow, orange and red. So go ahead and stock up on pumpkin, sweet potato, spinach, kale, carrots, citrus fruits and papaya.
Drink eight glasses of water a day
Staying hydrated is essential for glowing skin. Use a large water bottle or a filtered jug to keep track of daily water intake.
Eat enough Vitamin C
Vitamin C provides repair and growth of the skin tissue. Found in citrus fruits, berries and dark leafy greens it also provides collagen support, can reduce hyperpigmentation and prevent premature aging.
Many of the top performing anti-aging products contain large quantities of Vitamin C but the quality of these products will vary. Kakadu plum an ingredient used in Fleuron’s Brightening Rose Serum, is known to have the highest recorded level of natural Vitamin C content of any plant in the world – more than 100 times that of oranges (Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, 2014).
While we know that eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables can heal inside your body. Making vitamin C part of your daily skin regimen can also heal from the outside in!
